ABOUT SAILGP

SailGP races for a better future, championing a world powered by nature. The sport’s pinnacle league, SailGP features short, intense races at iconic stadium-style venues across the globe.

The best athletes in the sport race identical supercharged F50 catamarans, which fly above the water at the fastest speeds seen in sail racing. National teams aim for sailing’s top prize of US$1 million while keeping purpose at the heart, racing for the future with global partners to achieve measurable impact.

SailGP’s ambition is to be the world’s most sustainable and purpose-driven global sports and entertainment platform. We believe in the power of our sport for good and the power of nature to change the world.

Sir Ben Ainslie

Sir Ben Ainslie is the most successful Olympic sailor of all time, he has competed and medalled at five Olympic games. At his first ever Olympic Games, aged 19, he won an Olympic silver medal and went on to establish himself as the world’s best by winning consecutive gold medals at the next
four Olympic Games.

Fresh from his London 2012 success, Ben turned his focus to the next challenge, competing with ORACLE TEAM USA as Tactician for their defence of the 34th Cup, helping the American team win the event, 9-8, against Team New Zealand. Ben was an instrumental part in one of the greatest comebacks sport has ever seen, becoming the first Briton, for 110 years, to be part of a winning Cup team.

Ben is now Driver and CEO of the Great Britain SailGP Team with the British entry currently competing in season two of the league having won two (Sydney 2020 and Bermuda 2021) of the three events they have raced in thus far.
